My beautiful (fashionable) sister, Lisa, turned 28 on July 20th. She hosted a birthday pool party with friends and this cake was the main dessert.
It was my first time decorating with fondant and I was surprised how easy it was. Aside from the aesthetic appeal, the fondant kept the cake very moist and delicious (red velvet - my sister's favorite).
I have finally moved and settled into my new home in Port Washington, NY - on the north shore of Long Island. I have a great kitchen to create cake designs. My first cake in my new home was for this year's Mother's Day celebration.
A lot of firsts: First family gathering in my first home with my first cake designed in my new kitchen. This cake was the first I have attempted with a basketweave design - self taught. It was also the first time I used royal icing to create sugar flowers.
Crumb coated. Second coat of white on top and purple on the sides. Begin basketweave.
I was given the honor of creating Cole Kim's 2nd birthday cake! Cole is the son of my 2 good friends (Kim & Peter). He decided to have a Halloween themed birthday party.
Mommy (dressed as a cat) with the smiling birthday boy... who dresses up as a Dinosaur!
Tucker Belle turns 1 year old on June 14th. The Pastrichs are in Chicago to celebrate (just a coincidence). I created a yellow cake with a layer of chocolate frosting in my new sheet cake pan. Tucker Belle's famous pose is her frog stance and her ears are her signature characteristic: '
So I carved the cake to abstractly represent her pose.
